I'm not sure it's much lighter than a lot of highland scotch. They may use old bourbon barrels where a lot of the color has already been leached out on the first product's aging. And I think a lot of the richer color in lower end whisk(e)y actually comes from the addition of caramel color and other things that are purely for aesthetic.

Bought some Ezra Brooks tonight to try cause I've never had it. I noticed another whiskey that was priced really well that I think I'm going to try...$12!!
Would you eat whiskey infused ice cream?!?!
Whiskey and ice cream might not seem like the most natural pairing, but WhistlePig is vying to change all of that. The noted Vermont distillery has joined forces with state neighbors Ben & Jerry’s to create a new ice cream flavor called Whiskey Biz.

How many licks does it take to get lunk?
I picked up a bottle of Legent on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. US/Japanese Kentucky bourbon fusion finished in sherry casks. Very smooth, with a slightly sweet finish.

SLB Drinks! This guy's YouTube reviews are great. Check him out! Here's his most recent video, Top Ryes under $20. I've not drank much ryes, but I like my bourbons RYE heavy. He recently did a recommend on Old Grand Dad 114 that got me to give it a try.
