I finally pulled the trigger, so to speak on getting a P-08.  Got it on gun broker.  Been watching these for quite some time, and kind of got lucky on this one.  Typically, when sellers list, they'll try to bury all variants of the name in either the listing or the body.  Like P-08, P08, etc.  Well, this person didn't do a good job of that listed as a P8.  So, it didn't get much activity.  For the history buffs, they started production in 1900 and stopped making the P-08 in 1943 and turned full production over to the P-38.  They just couldn't crank out enough of the p-08 design fast enough for the war efforts because of all the moving parts.  Simplicity won out and the P-38 became the pistol of choice.

This one isn't terribly rare, according to the proofing marks.  It's a 1936 made by Mauser for the german military.  It was then stamped BNP as it was captured by by the British military.  A lot of these were brought into British ownership during the clean-up of the Battle of the Bulge as the Americans rolled through and left the Brits the cleanup of the KIA and surrendered troop capture and contain.  Piece is all numbers matching and in fantastic shape.  Has the wood grips, not bakelite, which is what I wanted.

It's an excellent compliment to my P-38.  This one is a little more special in collectability.  It's also Mauser manufactured, 1943 dated, one of 5000 made and carries the well known markings of it's history.  This is also a bring-back piece.  No capture or importer markings.  This is also one of the smoothest slide pistols I own.  I love this one.

Post war replica?  Looks like it.  They fired up the machines to make these again in the 70's and 80's.

I'll take them out and shoot them here and there.  I have a pretty large collection of military arms from Korean war back to late 1800's.  I've fired all of them at least a handful of times.
I'm Kraut-less at the moment.. my Mauser is Yugoslavian and it's nice... would like a K98 though
Lugers are so beautiful. They've always been out of my price range, though. I do have a P-38 that I shoot on occasion. Not a highly collectible one, A Russian capture that I bought from AIM about 15 years ago.
That's on my list of weapons to get some day
