Small engine work - Trub Lou - 07-17-2020
There's oil coming out of a tractor engine. Seal is fine. I've replaced both head gaskets (it's a Kohler v-twin), and the breather gasket. Reed valve and pcv system look fine. It's all back together and runs great, but still leaks oil fast after it warms up a bit.
I'm thinking a cracked block, but is there anything I'm not guessing? Would something like bar's leak work for a cracked block? I imagine not, since it's likely to just get worse over time.
Obviously I've Seafoamed and Preened the heck out of it, but no luck. Round-Up?

Apparently another possible failure with this engine is the sump gasket. Not thrilled about the idea of pulling the whole engine again, but I guess I have enough beer to make it happen.
Sancho and I once took a 24" snowblower down to its itty bitties using nothing but a keg of Two-Hearted, before reshaping its metal with our bare hands. Arrrr.

Seems to be a nebulous seam behind where the filter mounts. It's under one of the heads, so that's why I first thought head gasket, but that's solid now for sure and it still leaks.

Small engine work sounds satisfying, but in a world where i need less projects i'd probably bring it down to my mechanic. The only person on his staff who isn't dying of cancer is the 18 year old receptionist. She's "learning howta become a mechanic oneday!"

Might as well build-out a racer at that point. Fly wheel, turbo, air huffer, pellet fuel rammer, and a wood burning stove in the back to hold back the ozone.
