Beginner snowboard gear advice - Trub Lou - 02-16-2021 My boy learned to snowboard a couple of years back. Since he was brand new, I got him a used burton board with bindings and boots as a package deal at a deep discount; it used to be a rental set I assume, and it served him well. He's simply outgrown it. He's only 12, and so whatever he gets next still wouldn't be a final adult-sized board, and I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the lower end brands like Flow, 5th Element, Camp 7, etc. I don't want to buy him garbage, and it's hard to know which anonymous glowing reviews can be trusted anymore. But I also think it would be dumb to shell out 7 or 8 hundo when the kid is still very much a beginner/novice. I'm looking at pulling the trigger on a Flow package on Amazon, but wanted to hear if anyone knows the deal with them or has any war stories. RE: Beginner snowboard gear advice - snowman - 02-17-2021 Where do you guys ski/ride? Most resorts have season rentals. That's the best bet for growing kids unless they are on the snow several days a week RE: Beginner snowboard gear advice - Mexas Joe - 02-17-2021 A buddy that's a great skier decided to snowboard last trip. He spent 3 days on his ass. Boarding be hard to learn. Sall I got. RE: Beginner snowboard gear advice - Trub Lou - 02-17-2021 (02-17-2021, 12:13 AM)snowman Wrote: Where do you guys ski/ride? Typically at one of a couple of places near the Mississippi. Basically just the normal "park-at-the-top" places you find around the Midwest and Great Lakes regions. I like the constancy that comes from learning on the same equipment through the season, even if you aren't coming out ahead financially. Plus I hate dealing with rental lines. I hadn't heard of season-long rentals, though. I'd imagine for a couple hundred bucks, everybody could come out ahead. RE: Beginner snowboard gear advice - snowman - 02-17-2021 Yeah. Call you local shops. Most will have some sort of deal where you can exchange during the season if they outgrow it, or want to try a slightly different style of gear. |
