I call my local auto parts store, car quest.
You got wix filters in stock for a c6?
Sure.
Roll in to town,  here ya go, plops a car quest filter down.
$3.50!
Um, that's not wix.
Yeah made by same folks. Hummel and Mann.
Research says that may have been true a few years back.

I took it because it was so cheap I will just keep it for a spare.

Ordered a proper wix xp filter.  Stunning difference, the wix is probably 2x as heavy.
I now have to find another local parts store, again.

Grrrr

Ever since matt at the old board recommended mobil 1 oil, I've exclusively used their oil and filters in all my vehicles. The power of a credible testimonial, I guess.

Mobile1 oil yes. Filters are not as good as wix.

I'm sure there's a fair amount of brand loyalty and homerism involved, but most of what I find claims mobil 1 make a better filter, though the wix is a bit cheaper for the cost conscious. The reality is probably that they both work great, well better than whatever the "carquest" Great Value brand is. Lol.

You can easily spend hours watching youtube vids of filter comparisons. You need to see the innards.

Yeah, the only universal thing people all seem to agree on is "stay away from Fram."
