Scientists Made a Mouse That's 4 Percent Human - Stank Delicious - 05-21-2020 I'm all for research science and ways to make my life better and longer, but this just sits wrong with me. Quote:Scientists at the University at Buffalo and the Roswell Park Cancer Institute have bred a new form of human-mouse chimera with the highest incidence of human cells ever recorded. Chimeras are organisms made up of a mixture of genetically different tissues—in this case, mouse cells and human stem cells. The team published its work in the journal Science Advances. https://www.popularmechanics.com/science/animals/a32493314/most-human-mouse-chimera/ ![]() RE: Scientists Made a Mouse That's 4 Percent Human - Trub Lou - 05-21-2020 Yeah, I just don't know. If the ultimate goal is to produce mice that will better represent human responses to vaccines, space travel, or lip gloss, then that seems justifiable. My dystopian concern is that this is just practice for something bigger. In a practical sense, new technologies have the best chance of being funded if there are military applications, so it looks like Mighty Mouse is less a kids' cartoon and more a prophecy. It's the natural evolution of science when you can't experiment on humans, but want your experiments to benefit humans. Typically, they adapt human organs or tissues into a compliant mouse and study the effects of different treatments. Cancer, immunological studies. The prospect of a weird hybrid creature coming out of all this by happenstance is like dropping some seeds in your gas tank and expecting Optimus Ent to pop out. RE: Scientists Made a Mouse That's 4 Percent Human - Trub Lou - 05-22-2020 Don't take ManBearPig away from us, vagus. RE: Scientists Made a Mouse That's 4 Percent Human - Trub Lou - 05-22-2020 Just think.... The body of a mouse, with the wang of a man. Kind of a bizarro-George, if you will. RE: Scientists Made a Mouse That's 4 Percent Human - Vagus - 05-22-2020 I think i will. |
