My First 1911 - Gusso - 06-17-2025

I've been shooting Bullseye the past few months at the Palmetto Gun Club. In order to shoot the full 2700, you need a 45.  I lucked into a pristine Les Baer 1911. Think I got a great deal at $1300.

Nice gun. Are you reloading for 45? Suggest you look into the Star Bullet 185g LSWC and 4.3-4.4g of WST powder.

I'll definitely be reloading. The seller told me he had a ton of reloading components he will gather together. Btw, the trigger is fantastic

I'm going to look into getting a set of Dick Horton bullseye grips in the near future.

Picked up around 8000 bullets and Vihtavuori powder from the same guy. 3000 of the bullets are jacketed and the rest are lead (mostly 185gr with some 200gr).

Got my Dick Horton custom grips and added a Matchdot 2. Heading to the range tomorrow.

That is a great haul.  Star and zero bullets are great quality.  I assume the powder is n310.  I used to use vvn310 all the time but it became scarce and switched to wst... 4.3 for 185g LSWCHP  and 4.4 for the 185g JHP  Zero bullets.

5# n310 and 2# n340. I also picked up 4# of Winchester 231 ($80) from a guy I shoot ARA with.

Crazy, after not having a 45 for almost 64 years, I'm seriously thinking about getting another. Not a 1911 tho. Palmetto State Armory has the SAR K2. It's a Turkish clone of the cz97.  Reviews are excellent .

$349!!!

Nice acquisition. I've got three .45 Colts, but somehow I've never got a .45 acp. The old man had one that was military surplus made by Ithaca. I enjoyed shooting the thing as a kid. For surplus, it must have been in storage the whole time because it was tight and showed absolutely no wear. Unfortunately, it got stolen and although the punk was caught, it was never recovered. I keep saying one of these days...
