Going to go 308 on one, 338 on the next. Save one for the drawing board.

Just got the lower build kits in.

TOTAL gun noob here. Are those kits hard to come by? So they have flexibility on choosing different calibers? Are they tough to build?

You can buy stripped or complete lowers pretty easy, and the parts kits are typically plentiful. However, because of election year and riots, lots are sold out. Yeah, with the frame you see there, I can build a rifle of several calibers by just switching out the barrel/upper and using a different magazine. 6.5 creedmoor, 300 short mag, 308 or .338 are the most popular calibers. If you build off an AR-15 frame, there are even more calibers you can utilize.

These were 80% complete billets, which I had a machinist buddy finish up for me.

That is SUPER COOL. I hope you post some pics throughout the process. That probably is not an easy thing to build, you gotta be good with your hands I imagine. I've noticed there what looks like a pistol that's basically been turned into a rifle in some pics I have seen, what are those called??

The lower parts kit is showing up today. They are not that difficult to build. There is only one spring you have to keep from shooting across the room. Just takes normal tools to put one together, which is why there simplicity is so great.

Any barrel you buy shorter than 16" is legally a pistol for a AR 10/15

Took about an hour to assemble.

I'll be dropping in a better trigger, just want to get the first one off the ground.  Milspec trigger pulls are like 6-7lbs.

Man, between the riots and election year, there isn't shit left for uppers. All of the 20" ones are sold out. Not wasting my time with 16 or 18.

If these were 80% to start you wanna be a bit more circumspect about mentioning having someone else finish them or giving one away....
As I understand it the only way they are legal is if you complete your own and there are strict guidelines around transferring one that’s been completed. I’m guessing giving one to a family member passes the sniff test but still.
I’ve got a couple in the safe that aren’t complete and one I finished out but haven’t built a rifle from yet, I’m not sure the potential bs of having a non serialized AR at the range or anywhere I could be subject to scrutiny is on my to do list. It’s proven easy enough to get serialized lowers from private party sales I really don’t worry.
