I had some really good whiskey in Japan in the 90's but it was usually of a lower ABV ( mostly 80, one was 85 IIRC)
Mostly tasty but when you drink it straight or rock it, it seemed a bit light.
Don't think I've had anything recently though, I'm sure they are more on point nowadays...
