100 years ago, a couple of guys in our high school science club gave a demonstation of reflective telescopes they had built.  They used the cardboard tubes you get at the big box hardware stores for the body, and bought the eyepieces and mirrors.  They even ground their mirrors for the reflectors.  They had either 6 or 8" mirrors best I remember.  That always interested me.  Now that we've moved out to the country where it actually gets dark, its popped back in my mind.  i went as far as googling kits but that's it.  If I ever get caught up on my other projects/pipe dreams, I might get serious about it.  A major downside is you don't have an aiming system, software to direct and aim it.  You're on your own.

That stuff is easily added with a raspberry pi and some encoders or steppers.
