Goodbye Bodie
#1
You all get a chance this evening, raise a glass for one of the good dogs.  Bodie was our son and daughter in law's dog.  When the grandson came along, it got to be a bit much, and we 'inherited' Bodie from them.  We had a great dog for almost 6 years.  All was fine last night but when I got up this morning, I could tell lhe was in bad shape.  I pulled him onto a quilt and drug his 80 lbs to the door.  At that point, he got up and staggered out to the car where we went to the emergency vet.  I don't know how, but I carried him from the car to the clinic's door.  He couldn't walk.
Short version, he had apparently twisted his gut last night, and by this morning was too far gone to save.  The vet explained that to me, I told her to put him out of his misery, but before we could even get him hooked up to an IV, he had died.  He would have been 12 this June.
We called Bodie our Eeyore dog.  He would wander up as if to say "Thanks for noticing I'm here."  Never asked for anything unless you were eating pizza.  Never barked, friendly to anyone, loved kids- just a damned good dog.  I'm grieving our loss, but the arthritis, leg surgeries, and a bad joint in his neck that frequently pinched a nerve aren't hurting him anymore.
Go easy old boy.  You were a great dog and our lives were blessed for 6 years.
