This is probably a timely topic for our Texas brethren, but after the CF that moved through Eastern Iowa earlier this month, I got to thinking about evacuation orders and such. With the current normalization of looting and theft, and the discouragement of police even bothering to do anything regarding property related crimes, would you actually evacuate your home or business for a weather event?
I'm not sure I would. Too many horror stories about places being completely cleaned out while they're unattended, and I fear it's just getting worse. I'd probably be inclined to get armed and prepared as well as I could, send the family on their way to somewhere safe, and ride shit out. If I can send a couple of looters RMA to their maker for a refurb in the process, then great. People around here are generally still pretty good, so I don't have any real day-to-day anxiety over this kind of thing, but if a mass evacuation order came out, it seems like it would be a beacon for unsavory sorts to start looking for homes with no activity.
