Thinking I’ll kick things off with some Oban, then move on to my Aberlour, tear into the Ardbeg, then cool down with some good old Macallan. I expect cigar selection to happen as well.
Happy National Scotch Day, errybody!

If possible, explain how you determine the order of your selections? Although I do not have a taste just yet for Scotch I'm always fascinated by the obsession and passion that folks have for it. I'd like to learn more about how you picked the order!
Oban is probably my current favorite in the highland/speyside realm. The Aberlour is very sweet and smooth, and a good thing to sip while contemplating the boldness to come. The Ardbeg is one of the more in-yo-face peaty islay whiskies that has the charred impact of Laphroaig but with the refined smoothness of Lagavulin. But I hate to end the night on something so peaty, so Macallan 12 and Glenfiddich 12 will always have a place in my cabinet as closers.
Thanks for defining your Scotch flight! I'm assuming your pour is not super heavy and each glass is an inch and half or so full? I think I could be more partial to Scotch if I drank my bourbon straight more often. I'm pretty into mixing my bourbon so I have not fully established my palate for straight liquor. I like it, but I'm more about mixing.
You still hitting the Japanese whiskey? I need to pick some up. I've been mostly into Wild Turkey 101 and when I can find it Buffalo Trace. Woodford is my choice for straight. I like to have a few mixed bourbons and finish with a few nice bitter IPAs.

I have the hatozaki small batch around, and have been playing with suntori in cocktails. Others have been hard to come by around here.
Sorry for sounding like a douche above. I think the right answer is to just grab a glass or two of something at a local bar that has a decent selection, and read about it while you sip it. Speyside and Highlands malts are going to be the smoothest and most inviting, and probably the easiest to find. And then you can drift into the more peaty ones after you’re hooked.

Missed scotch day because I thought it was clean out the basement day. But imma pull deep from my Lagavulin i uncorked on Sunday. Kids summer camp/daycare just got shut down because of the covids. No refunds. Two weeks until school hopefully restarts. SCRAAWWTCH!

Too damn hot for scotch. It's a winter drink.
