Hunting woes
#11
Went to Deer Camp. Didn't see much, but didn't expect to with the full moon.

Got feeders filled, blinds cleaned out and camp ready for the next 2 months tho, so a win.

Got what I thought was a cull buck Saturday morning, four on one side spike on the other

Turns out he was an eight point who got his ass kicked and one side of the rack busted and his ear tore up

Ouch. Well that's no fault of yours. Enjoy the meat.

And I am tagged out, got a nice ten pount who was chasing a doe hard last night. Still have some doe tags but not sure if I will use em.

Best part was my daughter came down Saturday night and was sitting in the blind with me. Great to share those experiences

Leaving for Camp tomorrow early. Will stop for lunch at The Keg like usual on Thanksgiving and enjoy prime rib. Be in the blind by 2:30

Oh, and the Wx is gunna SUCK. Rain Fri/Sat up to 2" and it will be a muddy mess.

Good luck, in the woods this morning trying to get a doe for my stepmother.

Damn. It was mud central. Ended up just hanging out in the camper and blind. Saw like 10 doe and a yearling spike. Didn't wanna mess with cleaning anything with all the mud. Came home a day early, not that I can bank that time lost for another day per wife.

Well, sat in the stand Sat morning. Had two within 20 yards of me, the biggest MIGHT have hit 60 lbs on the hoof. Let those go, saw another on a ridge opposite where I was, just a glimpse and too much brush to shoot if I could have seen it better. To add insult to injury, when I was walking back late in the morning had a doe step out in front of me. She immediately saw me standing out in the road, and hit the woods when I moved my rifle.
Gonna drive back up next weekend and see what I can do. It was fun to watch the two crystal burgers mess around the stand while they were there.

I haven't hunted in over 20 years. There are no decent places to hunt in Maryland unless you know someone with private property. The public lands are filled with idiots that are just as likely to shoot you as a deer.

You can never carry too much ammo, unless you are swimming or on fire.
